Welcome Superheroes to Summer School 2018!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to AUSD’s Summer School 2018 at Haight Elementary! We are very excited to be working with your child and we look forward to partnering with you to make it a great experience for all. Our summer school is a combination of three programs: English Language Development for bilingual students, Extended School Year for students who require year-round services, and the LEAPS afterschool program. Summer school is Monday through Friday from June 18 to July 13, with no school on Wednesday, July 4th. Gates will open at 8:15 for morning drop-off and everyone will gather in the courtyard for the first couple of days until the children know where to find their classrooms.

Much of our summer coursework will center on math or science curriculum, and our thematic learning approach will involve many activities based on what it means to be a Superhero. Each week will feature special events, starting with a walking field trip on Thursday, June 21 to the Alameda Theater for a private viewing of The Incredibles 2! This movie is two hours long and rated PG for action sequences and brief mild language. Since some of our students may be sensitive to loud noise, the theater will be playing the movie at a lower volume just for us. If for any reason you feel that this field trip is not appropriate for your child, we will be providing alternate activities here on campus. For those that want your child to participate, please be sure to return the Walking Field Trip permission form (Pink Sheet) no later than this Wednesday, June 20. Parents are welcome to attend, but will need to buy their own ticket. For questions regarding this field trip, please call the main office at 510-748-4005.

Our staff is committed to three goals this summer: Be Safe. Have Fun. Make Progress. With your help, we will fulfill those goals and ensure your child gets the most out of their time with us.

Warm Regards,

Kevin Baker
